A dramatic Vivianite crystal specimen from the São Gabriel da Cachoeira area of Amazonas, Brazil, featuring elongated blue-green crystals emerging from a richly textured iron-bearing matrix. Its tall architectural profile and intense color make this an exceptional display specimen from one of Brazil’s best-known vivianite-producing regions.
The formation is dominated by a substantial intergrown crystal group rising diagonally across the matrix. Broad bladed faces, strong lengthwise striations, stepped growth features, and glassy reflections give the crystals remarkable visual depth. In ordinary lighting they appear nearly black, navy blue, or forest green; under focused illumination, translucent sections reveal vivid emerald, teal, and electric blue-green color.
Smaller vivianite crystals and partial blades continue across the lower matrix and along both sides of the primary formation. Portions remain partly embedded, preserving the relationship between the crystals and their original growth environment. The contrasting matrix ranges from dark brown and charcoal to ochre and rusty orange, with earthy coatings, recessed pockets, and rounded iron-rich surface textures.
The reverse is predominantly natural matrix, displaying an intricate granular-to-botryoidal surface in brown, mustard, and orange tones. This heavily mineralized host creates a striking backdrop for the highly reflective vivianite.
Measuring approximately 3 × 1.5 × 5.5 inches and weighing 0.59 pounds, this tall specimen combines substantial crystal size, saturated color, brilliant luster, and strong natural contrast.

About Vivianite
Vivianite is a hydrated iron-phosphate mineral valued for its intense blue-to-green coloration and highly reflective bladed crystals. Fresh material may initially be pale or nearly colorless, but exposure to oxygen and light can gradually deepen its color through natural oxidation.
Because vivianite is soft, cleavage-prone, and light-sensitive, display this specimen away from direct sunlight and strong ultraviolet exposure. Handle it by the solid matrix, avoid water and chemical cleaners, and remove dust only with gentle air or an exceptionally soft, dry brush.
