A striking Red Iron-Oxide Druzy Amethyst Plate from Alaçam, Turkey, featuring densely packed lavender quartz crystals over a vivid brick-red mineralized structure. Mounted upright on a custom display base, this compact specimen combines intense sparkle, unusual warm coloration, and a broad crystallized face within a sculptural 3.25-inch presentation.
The primary display surface is covered with hundreds of closely intergrown amethyst and quartz crystals. Colors range from nearly colorless and pale lavender to soft mauve and smoky pink-purple. Numerous crystal terminations remain individually visible, creating a more defined crystalline texture than extremely fine sugar druzy while still providing nearly continuous coverage.
Rich red-to-russet material is visible beneath and between the quartz crystals. These concentrated patches emphasize the individual points and give the formation its distinctive warm appearance. The coloration is visually consistent with iron-oxide or iron-hydroxide mineralization, although the precise mineral species has not been analytically confirmed.
Under focused lighting, the reflective quartz faces produce bright silver and golden flashes against the red structure. Changes in crystal size, clarity, and orientation create a highly active surface that continues to reveal new points of reflection as the viewing angle changes.
The formation has a comparatively thin, plate-like profile. Its sides reveal crystal growth extending around portions of the perimeter, while the reverse exposes the prepared tan, brown, gray, and reddish host material supporting the druzy face. This contrast provides a useful view of the specimen’s underlying geological structure.
Measuring approximately 3.25 × 1 × 2.5 inches and weighing 0.25 pounds, this mounted specimen offers strong visual presence without requiring substantial display space. Its unusually prominent red mineralization, dense lavender crystallization, bright luster, and custom upright presentation distinguish it from more conventional Alaçam druzy plates.

About Alaçam Druzy Amethyst
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. Its coloration develops when trace iron within the quartz structure interacts with natural geological irradiation. Variations in trace-element distribution, oxidation, crystal growth, and associated mineralization can produce colors ranging from nearly colorless lavender to smoky violet.
“Druzy” describes a surface covered by numerous small, closely spaced crystals. Each termination reflects light independently, producing the concentrated sparkle visible across this plate. The crystals on this specimen are sufficiently developed for many of their individual shapes and terminations to remain visible.
The red structure beneath the quartz appears consistent with iron-bearing mineralization. Minerals such as hematite, goethite, and related iron oxides or hydroxides can occur as coatings, inclusions, or mineralized layers associated with quartz. Without analytical testing, however, identifying the red material specifically as hematite would be overly certain; “iron-oxide mineralization” is the more accurate sales description.
Alaçam amethyst occurs in several distinctive habits, including fine sugar-druzy crusts, thin crystallized plates, densely packed clusters, and more open formations with separated points. Warm iron-influenced colors frequently provide dramatic contrast with the locality’s characteristic pale-lavender quartz.
Protect amethyst from prolonged exposure to intense direct sunlight, which may gradually reduce its color. Handle this specimen by its display base and clean it carefully with a soft, dry brush or gentle air blower.
