A dramatic red hematite amethyst specimen from Morocco’s Anti-Atlas region, featuring a tall formation of densely intergrown quartz crystals accented by a prominent cluster of pale calcite. Hematite-rich coloration transforms the amethyst into a warm palette of rust red, smoky burgundy, copper, peach, and amber, while numerous sharply terminated crystals produce brilliant reflections across the display face.
The calcite forms a striking central focal point. Broad cream-to-white crystals project from the darker quartz, displaying softly frosted surfaces, blocky forms, and visible cleavage texture. Under long-wave ultraviolet light, the calcite exhibits bright yellow fluorescence while the lamp remains on. Under short-wave UV, it displays a vivid orange-red phosphorescent afterglow after excitation is removed. UV intensity and duration can vary with lamp wavelength, strength, darkness, and viewing conditions.
The reverse exposes dark matrix, pale mineralized areas, iron-rich deposits, and additional quartz growth, giving the piece geological interest from every angle. Mounted upright on a fitted black display base, its steep profile and contrasting crystal groups create a commanding cabinet specimen.
