Oceanfire Apophyllite, a striking new mineral find from Jalgaon, India, featuring brilliant, glassy apophyllite crystals growing across fiery red volcanic basalt accented by green and multicolored celadonite.

The front of this specimen is covered with sharply formed, highly reflective apophyllite crystals that create an intricate landscape of glass-clear terminations and shimmering facets. Beneath the transparent crystals, colorful celadonite forms miniature green and multicolored mineral gardens, adding depth and contrast against the rich volcanic matrix.

From the reverse, the specimen tells an entirely different geological story. Its exposed reddish-brown basalt is densely textured with natural vesicles—rounded cavities formed by trapped gases in ancient cooling lava. Small mineral-filled pockets appear throughout the porous volcanic stone, preserving a visible record of the environment in which these crystals developed.

The specimen’s natural curved profile and table-cut base allow it to stand upright for display, showcasing both its expansive crystal face and dramatic volcanic origin. Mineralogical Notes

Apophyllite is a hydrous potassium-calcium silicate commonly found in cavities within basaltic volcanic rock. In western India, mineral-rich fluids circulated through ancient lava flows, depositing crystals inside vesicles and along exposed rock surfaces after the basalt had cooled.

Celadonite is a potassium- and iron-bearing mica-group mineral frequently associated with altered volcanic rocks. Its green coloration produces striking contrast beneath the transparent apophyllite and helps illustrate the different stages of mineralization represented in this specimen.

The porous red basalt matrix contains numerous vesicles formed when gases became trapped in cooling lava. These cavities later provided pathways and growth environments for secondary minerals, resulting in the dramatic association of glassy apophyllite, colorful celadonite, and iron-rich volcanic host rock.
