A genuine fossil jaw section from Mesohippus, one of North America's earliest horses, preserved within the renowned White River Group deposits of Wyoming. Dating to the Oligocene Epoch (approximately 33–28 million years ago), this specimen preserves a beautifully detailed series of cheek teeth that illustrate the evolutionary transition from forest-dwelling browsing horses to later grassland species.

The molars display exceptionally crisp enamel ridges and natural wear surfaces, making this an excellent educational and collector specimen. Under 365 nm UV light, the fossil exhibits a striking fluorescence, adding an additional display feature rarely seen in fossil mammals.

Mounted in a protective display box with identification label, this specimen is ready for display or study.

About Mesohippus

Mesohippus represents an important stage in horse evolution, living millions of years before modern horses. Roughly the size of a small dog, it possessed three functional toes and low-crowned teeth adapted for browsing leaves and soft vegetation.

The White River Group of Wyoming is internationally recognized for producing exceptionally preserved Oligocene mammals, making specimens from this locality highly desirable among fossil collectors, educators, and museums.

Collector Notes

This specimen features well-preserved molars with excellent enamel detail and natural occlusal wear patterns. Combined with its documented White River provenance and attractive UV fluorescence, it makes an outstanding addition to any fossil or vertebrate paleontology collection.
