An exceptional large-format Grape Agate cluster from West Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, featuring dense lavender botryoidal chalcedony across a dramatic 9.5-inch upright formation. Its substantial size, highly developed spherical growth, cohesive pastel coloration, and extensive coverage place it well above the quality typically encountered in smaller grape agate specimens.
The primary display face is dominated by hundreds of rounded chalcedony spheres ranging from tiny bead-like growths to prominent grape-sized orbs. These formations overlap in cascading clusters that travel from the broad lower section into a tall, branching crest. Shades of lavender, lilac, periwinkle, soft violet, and blue-purple create subtle natural zoning across the specimen.
Fine pale druzy and secondary microcrystalline growth are scattered between the larger spheres, producing a delicate sparkling contrast against their smoother, waxy surfaces. Small recessed pockets reveal additional botryoidal formations positioned deeper inside the structure, giving the piece impressive three-dimensional depth.
The reverse presents a markedly different geological surface, with cream, white, pale lavender, and faint sage mineralization covering the underlying formation. Druzy-lined recesses, smaller spheres, irregular ridges, and natural openings preserve the specimen’s complex volcanic-cavity architecture.
Measuring approximately 5 × 3.5 × 9.5 inches and weighing 2.78 pounds, this extraordinary collector specimen combines exceptional size, dense botryoidal development, elegant coloration, and striking visual interest from every side.

About Grape Agate
“Grape Agate” is the popular trade name for rounded, botryoidal chalcedony from Indonesia. Despite the name, this material generally does not display the banding traditionally used to define agate. Its appeal comes from densely grouped chalcedony spheres that resemble clusters of grapes.
These formations developed as silica-rich fluids deposited successive layers of microcrystalline quartz within openings in volcanic rock. Variations in mineral content and growth conditions produced the lavender coloration, rounded forms, pale coatings, and fine secondary crystallization visible across this specimen.
Handle the piece with both hands and support its solid lower structure. Clean only with a soft, dry brush or gentle air to protect the smaller spheres and delicate druzy growth.
