A vivid erythrite specimen from the Aghbar Mine in Morocco’s Bou Azzer district, displaying brilliant raspberry-red to electric-magenta crystals across a contrasting white, gray, and earthy matrix. The intense coloration and metallic-looking reflections make this compact piece immediately striking, while its upright presentation provides excellent visibility from multiple angles.
The primary display face is richly mineralized with individual prismatic blades, clustered growths, and smaller sparkling crystals. Its strongest focal point is a dramatic radiating spray of elongated erythrite blades near the center-right. Bright reflective faces and deep crimson recesses give this formation exceptional depth, especially under direct lighting.
Additional erythrite appears throughout the upper and lower portions as isolated blades, partial sprays, and dense crystalline patches. White crystalline material creates bold contrast around the saturated pink-red growth, while darker matrix zones emphasize the specimen’s natural texture. The reverse is more matrix-dominant, revealing the host material supporting the colorful display face.
Erythrite is a hydrated cobalt arsenate mineral famous for its extraordinary pink-to-purple coloration and its association with cobalt-bearing deposits. It is historically known as “cobalt bloom” because its vivid color can mark the presence of cobalt minerals. This specimen is displayed upright on a fitted black base.
