A highly distinctive “Blueberry” Azurite specimen from the Bou Nahas Mine near Oumjrane, Morocco, featuring intensely saturated royal-blue azurite rosettes scattered across a contrasting cream-colored matrix. The rounded crystal groups resemble clusters of blueberries, giving this unusual material its memorable collector nickname.
Several prominent azurite rosettes decorate the primary display face. Each formation is composed of tightly intergrown, radiating crystal blades that create layered, flower-like surfaces with a bright vitreous luster. Their coloration ranges from vivid cobalt and royal blue to deep indigo within the recessed areas.
Small mint-green to turquoise malachite clusters appear between the azurite formations, sometimes emerging directly beside or through the blue crystal groups. Scattered white-to-colorless calcite adds another contrasting crystal habit, including blocky crystals and bladed aggregates around the lower edge.
The pale matrix preserves natural cavities, mineralized seams, iron-colored deposits, and visible fractures. Azurite, malachite, and calcite remain distributed across several sides, giving the specimen strong visual interest as it is rotated.
“Blueberry Azurite” is a descriptive collector name based on the rounded appearance of the rosettes and is not a formally recognized mineral variety.
