The Deccan Traps of western India are among the world's largest volcanic provinces and have produced some of the finest zeolite and associated mineral specimens known. Following volcanic eruptions millions of years ago, mineral-rich fluids circulated through cavities within the basalt, depositing successive layers of silica, calcite, and zeolite minerals.

This specimen showcases that process beautifully. A delicate coating of blue chalcedony formed first, producing a sparkling drusy surface. Later mineralizing events introduced creamy dogtooth calcite crystals that grew outward from the chalcedony, creating an elegant contrast between fine microcrystals and larger, sharply terminated calcite formations.

The combination of soft blue chalcedony and abundant calcite crystals is highly sought after by collectors for its aesthetic balance and exceptional display quality.
