A highly crystallized 360° Diamond Apophyllite Cluster from Maharashtra, India, featuring transparent to translucent apophyllite crystals extending around nearly the entire formation. Mounted upright on a custom display base, the specimen can be appreciated from every direction, with each rotation revealing new reflective faces, geometric terminations, and densely intergrown crystal details.
The formation is dominated by colorless to very pale icy-green apophyllite with exceptional glass-like luster. Numerous sharply formed crystals display broad, brilliantly reflective faces and diamond-like pyramidal terminations. Larger crystals project from the outer edges while a dense layer of smaller intergrown crystals fills the center, producing strong sparkle and a complex three-dimensional structure.
Several prominent crystals exhibit excellent clarity, internal reflective features, and subtle natural inclusions. Fine growth lines and stepped surface patterns are visible across selected faces, adding crystallographic detail without diminishing the specimen’s bright appearance. The nearly complete crystallization and minimal visible matrix give the piece the look of a freestanding cluster rather than a conventional matrix specimen.
Measuring approximately 2 × 2 × 3 inches and weighing 82 grams, this compact mounted specimen offers impressive height and visual impact. Its multidirectional crystallization, pale coloration, brilliant luster, and abundance of sharply geometric crystals make it a distinctive example of Maharashtra’s celebrated apophyllite mineralization.

About Apophyllite
Apophyllite is the collector name commonly used for a group of hydrated potassium-calcium silicate minerals known for their exceptional clarity, brilliant vitreous luster, and sharply geometric crystals. Many specimens from Maharashtra are fluorapophyllite-(K), although precise species-level identification requires analytical testing.
The trade term “Diamond Apophyllite” describes particularly bright, transparent apophyllite with strongly reflective faces and pointed terminations that create a diamond-like sparkle. It refers to the specimen’s appearance and crystal quality rather than any relationship to natural diamond.
Maharashtra lies within the Deccan Traps, an immense volcanic province formed by successive basaltic lava flows. Gas bubbles trapped in the cooling basalt produced open cavities that were later penetrated by mineral-rich fluids. Over time, these fluids deposited apophyllite, stilbite, heulandite, calcite, chalcedony, and other secondary minerals.
Apophyllite has perfect basal cleavage and can be sensitive to impacts and sudden temperature changes. This mounted specimen should be handled by its base whenever possible and displayed where its projecting crystals will be protected from contact.
